Welcome to my site for House District 85, where I, Braxton Banks, look forward to meeting you soon as we discuss important matters in the Oklahoma Legislature!
In recent years, we’ve seen how harmful it can be when partisan agendas overshadow the core mission of our public schools. This approach does a disservice not only to our students, but also to the teachers and administrators who work every day to support them. Oklahomans deserve better.
I’ve witnessed firsthand how these pressures affect our educators. A close friend of mine left the profession because he simply did not have the support he needed from his administration. Stories like his are far too common, and they illustrate the urgent need to refocus our priorities.
We must give our teachers the tools, resources, and support necessary to succeed—not only in teaching our children, but in inspiring them. Every one of us can remember a teacher who motivated us to grow, dream, and pursue success. Our responsibility now is to ensure today’s educators are empowered to do the same for the next generation.
Trade workers are essential to the strength and stability of our communities. As a hairdresser by trade, I understand how much skill and dedication these professions require, and how vital they are to Oklahoma’s economy.
Recent efforts to consolidate or eliminate the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering would weaken important safety standards and put both workers and consumers at risk. These decisions also threaten the future of cosmetology schools that train the next generation of skilled professionals. We cannot allow policies that undermine safe workplaces or jeopardize livelihoods.
This commitment extends to all trade professions, plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, mechanics, and construction workers. Every tradesperson deserves safe conditions, strong regulatory support, and the opportunity to build a successful career.
When we invest in our trade workers, we invest in the people who keep Oklahoma running. Supporting them strengthens our communities and helps ensure a more reliable, prosperous future for us all.
Every Oklahoman deserves to live in a community where they feel safe, respected, and free from discrimination. Unfortunately, recent legislation has treated some of our neighbors as second-class citizens; and that is unacceptable. We can, and we must, do better.
These laws signal a failure to protect the rights of all Oklahomans equally. Our state has an obligation to ensure that everyone — regardless of who they love or how they identify — has the same opportunity to live openly, authentically, and without fear.
We must affirm that our diversity is one of Oklahoma’s greatest strengths. Every citizen deserves the right to live as their true self, to love who they love, and to be recognized and protected under the law — just like their neighbors. I am committed to building a more inclusive Oklahoma, where equal rights are not just a promise, but a reality.
Every Oklahoman deserves access to the healthcare they need to live healthy, productive lives. Yet our state ranks 49th in the nation for healthcare outcomes, a clear sign that we must do better.
We need to strengthen SoonerCare and hold insurance companies accountable to the people they serve. Too many Oklahomans face high costs, denied claims, and limited access to providers. Healthcare should support families, not create financial hardship.
Improving access to both physical and mental healthcare makes our communities stronger and our workforce more resilient. When people can receive the care they need, they are better able to work, support their families, and contribute to our state’s growth.
Our rural communities face especially tough challenges as hospitals close, and provider shortages grow. No one should have to travel hours for basic medical care. We must ensure that all communities, rural and urban alike, have reliable access to essential health services.
Oklahoma has a responsibility to care for its people. Investing in affordable, accessible healthcare is key to building a healthier, stronger future for our state.
Our veterans made incredible sacrifices, leaving their families and communities to serve our country. We have a responsibility to ensure they are supported in every way possible — from healthcare and mental health services to education and job opportunities.
I have seen firsthand how untreated PTSD can impact veterans and their families. If my grandfather had received the care he needed after serving in the Korean War, the hardships he caused my grandmother and mother might have been prevented. Stories like this are all too common and illustrate the urgent need for comprehensive support for those who have served.
Oklahoma must prioritize programs that provide veterans with access to mental health care, housing, job training, and medical services. We owe it to them to honor their service with the care, respect, and resources they deserve — ensuring that those who defended our freedoms are never left behind
No-bid contracts and backroom deals hurt small businesses, waste public funds, and erode trust in government. We must end insider favoritism and ensure that Oklahoma’s contracts are open, fair, and competitive for all.
Citizens deserve clear, accessible information about how their tax dollars are spent. Line-by-line budgets and greater transparency empower Oklahomans to hold their government accountable. Our tax dollars should be invested back into Oklahoma and its people, building stronger communities and a more prosperous state for everyone.
